Malinô Brdo – Malina means raspberry, brdo means a high hill. The word Brdo is no more used in active language, which refers to the long history of this name. The letter ô is in Slovak Language pronounced as “uo”. Also, this word form with letter ô refers to Liptov’s dialect, not the official grammar.
The chalet of Májek was built as recreation chalet for employees of the BZVIL (Which was the cotton factory of Vladimir Iljich Lenin – that was during the communist era) in 1968.
In 1973 took the unfinished building the organization called Slov Sport, Martin.
The voluntary mountain rescue service took part in the building from the very beginning and is a part of chalet of Májek until nowadays.
From 1991until now, the owner of Chalet of Májek is organisation Club of Slovak tourists (KST).
During the tough times, like adverse skiing season, etc. the chalet of Májek was the only one that was open continuously. Chalet of Májek is stable and reliable place of services and a shelter for tourists, also because of the Mountain Rescue Service that has it’s headquarters in the Chalet of Májek.
